What I have learned in MT 14:Medical technologists have various tasks to juggle. Aside from proper collection of specimens, there are other technical aspects of the job such as patient identification, material management, and more. Going into the subject at the start of the semester, I did not know what to expect. Frankly, I did not take into account how data and materials are being managed in the laboratory but reflecting upon it now, I understand the importance of organization and management in the life of a medical technologist. I now know different systems, applications, and techniques that could help with efficiency and quality assurance in the laboratory. As well as how to effectively manage a laboratory’s materials and information. All these contribute to one’s success as a healthcare leader. What I learned in HIS can definitely be used even outside of the laboratory. The concepts that I grasped can be applied to my daily life for better organization and structure.

What is the importance of material management in the laboratory and in my life?
Material management encompasses tracking, organizing, and managing laboratory equipment and supplies. Items utilized in the laboratory such as chemicals, reagents, and glassware, are the main focus for material management. Material management is significant because it helps ensure that a laboratory runs experiments and tests efficiently by having everything they need available. Tests can be conducted smoothly and labware can avoid damage by proper storage and organization of materials. The efficient use of materials and proper disposal of supplies is also emphasized in material management which reduces waste in the laboratory. Material management and laboratory safety are interrelated since proper storage and handling of hazardous substances is guaranteed, which reduces the risk of accidents and exposure.
In my life, material management can teach me to be more mindful of the things that I use daily. Proper organization of the things I handle in everyday life can benefit not only me but also my environment. I learn to be more cautious and to think about the safety of myself and others. I also acknowledge the importance of my time, and understand that through proper organization of daily matters, I am able to function more efficiently.
What is systems analysis and design?
– Systems analysis and design is a methodology used to develop efficient and effective information systems. It involves the analysis of the current system, identification of problems or opportunities for improvement, and the design and implementation of a new or improved system. This process includes identifying system requirements, developing a system architecture, designing the user interface, creating the detailed technical specifications, and implementing and testing the systems. The goal of systems analysis and design is to develop a system that meets the needs of the organization, is user-friendly, and is cost-effective to implement and maintain.
