The digestive system works by breaking food into nutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, or proteins. These are taken into the bloodstream, where the body can use them for energy, development, and repair purposes. Excess materials are thrown away in the form of feces (poo).

The stomach lining secretes gastric juice (which contains hydrochloric acid and enzymes) that aids in the digestion of proteins—churning and combining food with gastric fluid results in the formation of chyme, which is a thick and soupy liquid that comes out of the stomach.

The small intestine aids in the subsequent digestion of food that has been digested in the stomach. It is responsible for the absorption of nutrients (vitamins, minerals, carbs, fats, and proteins) and water from meals so that the body may utilize them.

The pancreas produces natural secretions known as pancreatic enzymes to aid digestion—ducts in the pancreas transport such liquids.

Artery - These are narrow, muscular tubes which transport oxygenated blood from the heart towards every region of the body.

Vein - It delivers deoxygenated blood as well as carbon dioxide towards the heart, which further transports this to the lungs.

Vena Cava - It pertains to two of the largest veins which bring blood to the heart\'s right upper chamber (right atrium) — the superior vena cava and inferior vena cava.
