Histology art is a marriage between the science of tissue studies and art. The microscopic world of tissues is captured and turned into captivating visuals.

The subjects mostly of histology art are the intricate details of the different tissues of different organisms. This is made possible by using special stains to reveal intricate patterns and designs of these tissues that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye.

Some artists directly use microscopes and photography to capture images of stained tissues. Others employ a more creative approach, using traditional art forms like painting, drawing, or sculpting to reimagine these microscopic landscapes. Digital tools and software also play a role, allowing for manipulation and enhancement of the captured images.

For whatever reason people produce histology art – for aesthetics or educational purposes – one thing is sure: Histology is an art. The human body is its canvas.

I was supposed to attach a photo of a watercolor painting of a brain tissue.
I included this photo instead because I found it cute and creative, even though it looks like a doodle from a bored student in Histology class.

Below is a cross-section of an artery, vein, and nerve under a microscope. The layers of an artery and vein are distinguishable.

Both blood vessels have three layers: (C) Tunica Externa, (D) Tunica media, and (E) Tunica intima, also known as the endothelium.

The tunica externa (tunica adventitia in some references) is the outer layer of the blood vessel that is usually composed of connective tissue that provides basic structural support for the blood vessels.

The tunica media is the middle layer of a blood vessel that is made up of thin, cylindrical, smooth muscle cells and elastic tissue. It also supports the blood vessels and is essential to help regulate blood flow and pressure within the blood vessels by changing vessel diameter (through constriction and dilation). This layer also makes up the bulk of arterial walls.

The endothelium is a thin monolayer of endothelial cells. This layer is directly in contact with blood and plays a role in keeping the blood moving smoothly throughout the body.

The arteries are noticeably thicker and bulkier-looking than veins. This is because arteries need to handle the high-pressure, oxygenated blood leaving the heart, while veins have thinner walls as they transport lower-pressure, deoxygenated blood back to the heart.

Jarixa Balbuena posted an update A policy sets out the strategic direction of the organization as decided by senior management. A policy will lay out a destination, but won’t give any direction on how this is to be executed. For example a policy would contain a statement such as: ‘Time and attendance with be tracked for all staff and contractors in a clear and consistent way', but wouldn't give any indication as to how that should be done.

‘A process is a set of inter-related activities that turn inputs into outputs.

A procedure or work instruction should detail the exact steps an individual would need to go through to complete any activity detailed in a process. Continuing on the time and attendance theme, a procedure may have the instruction: ‘The time and attendance spreadsheet can be found in the HR folder of the network drive. Populate the employee number and hours worked in columns C and D’.
