The body has three different types of muscle tissues – skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. Skeletal muscles are attached to bones. These are striated and multinucleated muscle tissues are responsible for voluntary movement.

The cardiac muscle is isolated in the heart. It is also striated, but mononucleated. It helps the heart contract to pump blood. Smooth muscles are fusiform-shaped and are mononucleated. They do not contain striations, hence its name. It propels substances throughout the body, and is usually found in the intestine and stomach.
