The mammal heart has a highly essential function for the existence of an individual. It is responsible for receiving the deoxygenated blood, recycling it through the lungs, and supplying oxygenated blood to the body. The heart pumps blood to the lungs and the rest of the body, hence, it is often described as the “pump”. The pumping is mainly done by the cardiac muscle cells, called the cardiomyocytes, which make up the heart muscle. Cardiomyocytes pump involuntarily and rhythmically— connected by intercalated discs.
