The majority of epithelial tissues are vast sheets of cells that cover all of the body’s exposed surfaces and line the outside of organs. Much of the glandular tissue in the body is made up of epithelium. The skin isn’t the only part of the body that is exposed to the elements. The epithelium also lines the airways, the digestive tract, and the urinary and reproductive systems. Endothelium (plural = endothelia) is a form of epithelium that lines hollow organs and bodily cavities that do not connect to the outside of the body, such as blood vessels and serous membranes.
