Medical Histology – MT 30 Lab C (2022) 4 years, 2 months ago Connective tissue serves a connecting function: It supports and binds other tissues in the body. Connective tissue typically has cells scattered throughout an extracellular matrix of fibrous proteins and glycoproteins attached to a basement membrane. The primary connective tissue elements include ground substance, fibers, and cells.Below are illustrations drawn by hand of three of the many microscopic images of connective tissues. The image specifically shows adipose tissue, areolar connective tissue, and Dense Fibrous connective tissue. Their description and function are as follows.
• ᴀᴅɪᴘᴏꜱᴇ ᴛɪꜱꜱᴜᴇ. It is a form of loose connective tissue that stores fat. Adipose lines organs and body cavities to protect organs and insulate the body against heat loss.
• ᴀʀᴇᴏʟᴀʀ ᴄᴏɴɴᴇᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ ᴛɪꜱꜱᴜᴇ. The main function of this tissue is that it provides nutrition to the cells and acts as a cushion to protect the organs from various external forces.
• ᴅᴇɴꜱᴇ ʀᴇɢᴜʟᴀʀ ᴄᴏɴɴᴇᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ ᴛɪꜱꜱᴜᴇ. Dense regular tissue attaches muscle to bones or another muscle and attaches bones to bones. This type of tissue can also withstand great tensile strength.References:
