Epithelial tissues acts as continuous sheets of cells that outlines internal surfaces of organs and covers the external surface of the human body. Particularly tagged as a selective barrier involved in the protection, secretion and excretion, adsorption and filter processes of the body. In epithelial tissues, cells are bounded together by tight junctions while an impermeable basement membrane separates epithelium from the underlying connective tissue.Epithelial tissues are classified based on various criteria, but are primarily identified through:
Number of cell layers (simple or compound or stratified)
Shape of surface cells (squamous, cuboidal or columnar)
Specializations (presence of cilia, keratin or goblet cells)
(instances of pseudostratified and transitional positioning are also known)Medium used: Digital art | CorelDRAW XX Adobe Illustrator
