Medical Histology Art – MT 30 Lab C (2022) 4 years, 3 months ago The integumentary system is the body’s largest organ, establishing a physical barrier between the exterior and inside to protect and maintain the internal environment. Kindly click the link to see my histology art for integumentary system that shows the microscopic view of the scalp, sweat glands, and hair follicles.
The following are the roles of each component of the integumentary system:
1. Scalp – serves as a place for hair to grow and a physical barrier to protect the body from unwanted irritants.
2. Sweat glands – also termed sudoriferous glands, help the body stay cool. Sweat glands on the skin’s surface secrete perspiration to cool the skin when the body temperature rises.
3. Hair follicles – can retain stem cells, increase cell proliferation and tissue invasion, and induce angiogenesis.
