The Digestive system is composed of organs that are designed for the purpose of converting food into the nutrients and energy your body needs for survival.
    • The tongue is a large muscular organ in the mouth of many vertebrates. It manipulates food for mastication and swallowing, and is the main organ of taste.
It is a muscular organ with connective tissue, glands, fatty tissue, and mucous membranes.
      • The ileum is the longest section of the small intestine. The walls of the small intestine are thin and narrow here, and blood supply is reduced. Food spends more time in the ileum, where most water and nutrients are absorbed.
Histologically, the ileum has the same basic structure as the jejunum:
        • Mucosa: Mucosal membrane, lining the inside of the intestine containing Peyer’s patches.
        • Submucosa: Connective tissue layer.
        • Muscularis externa: A bilayer of smooth muscle.
        • The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped hollow organ located just below the liver on the right side of the body. The gallbladder stores bile, which originates from the liver and aids in digestion.

The wall of the gallbladder is composed of three layers:

          • Mucosa: Mucosal membrane, lining the inside of the intestine containing Peyer’s patches.
          • Submucosa: Connective tissue layer.
          • Muscularis externa: A bilayer of smooth muscle.

Gallbladder lack muscularis mucosae or submucosa.
