The Elastic cartilage is one of three types of cartilage that the human body contains. Due to the addition of elastin fibers to the extracellular matrix, it is known for its flexibility or ability to snap back into its original or resting form. As can be seen, chondrocytes are abundant throughout the tissue, which is critical for the matrix’s production and maintenance. The auricle of the ear, the walls of the external auditory canals, the auditory (Eustachian) tubes, the epiglottis, and the upper respiratory tract all contain elastic cartilage.
