The respiratory system refers to the network of organs and tissues that help an individual breathe. It includes your airways, lungs, and blood vessels. Muscles involved in powering the lungs are also part of the respiratory system. These parts work together to move oxygen throughout the body and clean out waste gasses such as carbon dioxide.

Below is an illustration that was drawn by the hand of three of the many microscopic images of respiratory system body tissues. Their description and function are as follows:
β€’ π•Ώπ–—π–†π–ˆπ–π–Šπ–†. The trachea is a long tube that connects the larynx to the bronchi. The primary function of the trachea is to provide an air passage to your lungs for respiration. Also, along the trachea lining are sticky mucous linings that help trap foreign substances.
β€’ π•°π–•π–Žπ–Œπ–‘π–”π–™π–™π–Žπ–˜. The epiglottis is a flap of cartilage located in the throat behind the tongue and front of the larynx. The epiglottis is are usually upright, at rest, allowing the air to pass into the larynx and lungs. The main function of the epiglottis is to prevent food and drink from entering the windpipe.
β€’ π•¬π–Žπ–— π–˜π–†π–ˆπ–˜ 𝖔𝖋 π–™π–π–Š π•·π–šπ–“π–Œπ–˜. Tiny air sacs in the lungs are known as “alveoli.” These air sacs take up the oxygen you breathe and keep the body going. Alveoli are considered be the workhorses of the respiratory system. They expand to take in oxygen and shrink to expel carbon dioxide.
