Wall of the Stomach with rugae (Digestive System)

Location: Gastric folds(rugae) are coiled sections with tissue that exist in the mucosal and submucosal layers of the stomach.

Function: Gastric rugae are most prominent when stomach is collapsed. They provide elasticity by allowing the stomach to expand when a bolus enters it.
