Medical Histology Art – MT 30 Lab C (2022) 3 years, 9 months ago The digestive system is made up of organs that aid in the breakdown and absorption of food. It is a long, twisting tube that begins in the mouth and terminates in the anus. The gastrointestinal tract is made up of hollow organs such as the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. The digestive system’s solid organs are the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder.
The basic function of the digestive system is to extract nutrients from ingested food and to eliminate indigestible leftovers. Furthermore, the digestive system serves as a barrier between the contents of its lumen and human tissues, offering immunological protection against infectious disease.
