Skin aging is a complicated process, and changes in human skin due to aging have different characteristics compared to other organs. Dermal cell aging and the molecular mechanisms involved in this process are critical areas for understanding skin aging. Skin aging is known to impact a wide range of biological systems, including a decrease in extracellular matrix protein synthesis and an increase in the breakdown. However, environmental factors can hasten the development of this distinctive phenotype.

This study looked at gene expression in primary human dermal fibroblasts in three different in-vitro aging models-UVB irradiation, the rapid proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts from young and elderly donors. -
The researchers compared the gene expression patterns to those of a young control group. -
Cell growth rate was also used to assess the behavior of skin fibroblasts. -
The findings show that gene expression levels in skin fibroblasts were altered during the aging process in all three in-vitro aging models, and cell growth rate was lowered, implying that these methods can be used to study skin aging mechanisms as well as drug development screening methods.
