This article, which forms part of the life sciences series, examines the anatomy and physiology of skin, also termed the integumentary system. Skin is composed of two main layers, the epidermis and dermis.-
Skin, we can see it visibly with our naked eyes. It gives us human being an outer shield that protects us from harmful microorganisms, it keeps the water in our body from getting out. In every way, the Integumentary system is our first layer of defense.
