MT 30 – GH (Lec) 3 years, 7 months ago Hello everyone! Here is an article regarding the Histology of the Circulatory System.
Histology of the distal dural ring – PubMedThe distal dural ring (DDR) is a conserved intracranial anatomic structure marking the boundary point at which the internal carotid artery (ICA) exits the cavernous sinus (CS) and enters the subarachnoid space. Although the CS has been well described in a range of anatomic studies, to our knowledge …-
This article regarding the Histology of the Circulatory System is looking unto the histology of the Distal Dural ring, The DDR is a retained intracranial anatomic feature that marks the point where the internal carotid artery (ICA) leaves the cavernous sinus (CS) and reaches the subarachnoid space. The goal of this article was to assess the relationship of the distal dural ring to the internal carotid artery and determine whether the DDR can be dissected from the ICA. The authors examined ten frozen, adult cadaveric specimens. A standard fron-to-temporal craniotomy, orbito-optic osteotomy, and extradural anterior clinoidectomy was performed. After assessing such case and performing the histological study, the authors inferred that the ICA and DDR are highly interconnected, continuous structures, and so attempting surgical dissection between such structures may result in internal carotid artery injury.
