MT 30 – GH (Lec) 3 years, 10 months ago Hello everyone!! I came across this article and it caught my attention. It is about the Continuous-flow (CF) ventricular assist devices (VAD) as an established option for the treatment of end-stage heart failure. Thus, the impact of long-term CF on blood pressure control and end-organ arterial wall sclerosis, particularly in the event of long-term support (>3 years), is unknown. Continuous blood flow under long-term mechanical circulatory support has no effect on the arterial wall characteristics of different organs, according to the study. Blood flow from the arterial tree to the capillary bed is pulsatile under physiological circumstances. Pulsatility’s involvement in the correct functioning of the human body is yet unknown. In conclusion, continuous blood flow under long-term mechanical circulatory support has no effect on the arterial wall characteristics of different organs.
