MT 30 LAB – H 3 years, 7 months ago The urine produced by the kidney nephrons is delivered to the urinary bladder, where it is stored until being ejected by the urethra. The urinary bladder is a sac that acts as a urine reservoir. When filled with urine, it is placed in the extraperitoneal area of the pelvis behind the pubic bones and extends into the abdomen. The bladder is divided into two portions, each with its unique set of characteristics: the apex and body, which are located above the ureteric orifices, and the fundus, trigone, and neck, which are located below them. In healthy people, the bladder capacity is around 500 mL. The bladder extends as it fills, replicating afferent signals. Efferent impulses cause the bladder musculature to contract and the urethral sphincter to relax, respectively. Aside from mechanoreceptors, psychological factors such as stress, perception of appropriate surroundings, and emotional state all play a role in the timing and setting of micturition.
