The first and most important priority in a clinical laboratory is safety. Working in an environment with a multitude of hazards requires knowledge of how to safely deal with them. However, laboratory safety is only effective when guidelines are carefully enforced and observed. If safety requirements are not followed properly, serious accidents and unintentional exposure to biological hazards are more likely to occur.

In the video, the United States Department of Defense has provided health care professionals with the principles of basic laboratory safety in hospitals. The aim is to educate laboratory professionals about proper laboratory safety and increase their awareness of any dangers or hazards related to laboratory work. It informs lab staff that everyone who works in a hospital lab is responsible for the safety of not only others but also themselves. And for that to happen, each employee must do their part by following these safety procedures.
