With the goal of providing accurate and timely results to improve patient outcome, the histopathology laboratory has a lot to overcome. There are errors that can occur in every step of the process–from pre-analytical to post-analytical such as sample collection, preparation of reagents, cutting of tissues, staining and fixing and even reporting of results. Thus, with regards to healthcare, laboratory personnel must be well-trained so as to ensure that reagents, equipment and materials are practically and properly used, and quality results are delivered within the expected timeframe.
