3. Primary health care

Every human being is entitled to achieve the highest attainable standard of health as to achieve living one’s life in dignity. The right to health is the foundation of primary health care as it is a whole-of-society approach to health and well-being focused on effectively organizing and strengthening national health systems to bring services for health and wellbeing closer to communities. It is composed of integrating health services to meet the public’s health necessities, addressing broader determinants of health, and empowering individuals and communities to promote the improvement of one’s health. Primary health care functions by addressing health necessities through continuing care of the person through their lifetime, providing health services for health promotion, prevention, and management of health conditions, and delivering essential health services such as vaccinations and reproductive, maternal, newborn and child healthcare.
