A health system generally means a part of society with the mixture of technologies, research, and the government that provides care to the people in society. One interesting thing that I’ve learned about this is that it has the ability to influence the patient’s decision in which care must be done despite the doctor’s advice. Nonetheless, the health system is there to mainly ensure that the people gets to have access to the care and treatment that they need to avoid further damages to themselves or to those that’s present around them. Moreover, health systems are considered to be open systems as their external environment, especially the government and financial capabilities of the people, greatly affects it. Furthermore, it being an open system also means that the present status of the community the health system is present at must also be able to promote health awareness especially if there is an endemic or an pandemic. According to the World Health Organization, health systems must be safe and effective, timely, equitable, integrated, and efficient.
The health system has 4 known models in regards to how it is being funded. The first one is the Beveridge model, in which the government uses the tax of the people to fund the whole system. The Beveridge model then shows how the government becomes the owner of healthcare facilities and are also the ones to employ those who work for it. The second model is the Bismarck model in which the healthcare facilities and how the health system is delivered are all privately funded. Third model is the National Health Insurance Model which is a mix of the first two mentioned models. In the National Health Insurance model, the healthcare services of the health system are paid by the government by the use of the taxes of the people and the delivery of these healthcare services are done by privately owned organizations. The last model is the out-of-pocket model which is common in low-income countries. This last model is where the patient pays for the healthcare service that they got with the use of their very own money that they have.
