The IOS and the Android operating systems are two of the most dominant operating systems for smartphones on the global market. These operating systems have unique designs, codes, and approaches to how their operating systems will run. Major differences in their codes, vision of the system, and focal points make it difficult to compare both operating systems, but similar goals and aspects can be used to contrast their effectivity based on different factors and aspects. Factors and aspects such as security, compatibility, and simplicity are some of the key points that will be used in determining which OS is better, the IOS or Android system. These differences would be beneficial in determining which of the two operating systems are better when compared to each other.
Security has been, and still is, the main priority of Apple Inc. ever since they created the iPhone, which they have been able to prevent system breaches and hacking in their operating system. Extensive research and regular updates have been effective in preventing potential attacks on the system. On the other hand, the Android system has been lagging and lacking in effort, priority, and resources to manage and handle the weaknesses and holes in security. Most of the reported attacks are from the Android OS as the IOS is almost impenetrable due to its constant updates and closed-source operating system, which means that most of its code is private and can’t be tweaked by potential attackers to find possible holes and breaches in its codes. The Android OS is an open-source operating system, which makes it more vulnerable to attacks as holes in its security can be easily traced and used for the advantage of people creating malwares, worms, trojan horses, and other potentially harmful applications.
With major difference in the availability of the source code to the public, compatibility with other major phone brands and their choice of OS is could affect the choices of potential users. The IOS is considered to be one of the most closed-source operating systems on the smartphone market, and even with other devices as the IOS is almost exclusive with other IOS supported devices in terms of compatibility. This results in a smaller number of potential devices to pair and enjoy with as closed systems are commonly focused on keeping the scope of its users to its own brand. In terms of compatibility, the Android OS is highly compatible and easy to pair with other devices as the open-source code provides new inventions and innovations to collaborate it with Android smartphones. The compatibility of the Android OS to most of the well-known applications and devices is due to the availability of the source code for potential collaborators to use and apply to their devices.
The only constant in our world is change, and with change comes new and different things to learn and understand. Smartphones need to have simplicity even if there are major differences and new functions and capabilities as potential users could stray away from the potential hassle of learning the OS in a much-sophisticated manner. The IOS is considered to be one of the most simplest, basic, and constant OS in the market as most of the products follow the same flows and processes, with almost identical designs even in different devices. The Android OS is uniquely different as each device brand has different designs and processes, creating a much more diverse and different environment for the users each time a different device is being used.
Determining which operating system is based on how the user will use the operating system to their advantage. Contrasting operating systems results in a much diverse and unique way of delivering products and systems to the community. Personally, the factors stated in the first part is based on my preferences of how these OS are being used to my advantage, which is for regular use such as communication, connection, and aesthetics. Overall, the better operating system based on the different factors and aspects is the IOS as it is superior in the factors stated in the first part and the Android OS does not even come close to the security features and up to date changes in their source codes of the IOS.Top LIS in the Philippines:
