The similarity of why material management is both important in the laboratory and in my life is due to how it allows both to make sure that nothing goes to waste and that overstocking doesn’t occur.

Focusing on the laboratory, material management helps in all aspects, especially in making sure that all the things needed by the personnel and the customers are provided. For example, because material management gets you to recheck everything that has been used or not used, you will then be able to know if you need to order more or not. Not only that but you actually get to make sure that the materials that you need are just in time and you end up being able to prepare all the needed material that’s needed before it actually gets used. Furthermore, because you are able to track everything, the laboratory gets to avoid wasting money. Money is not wasted since you won’t be making sudden orders (which costs so much especially if you require it on the day) and you also won’t be making too many orders. The fourth reason why material management is important in the laboratory is because of how you get to ensure that your laboratory is maintaining its high-quality products because of how you maintain the materials that you have whether it is due on how you take care of it but also on what kind you purchase.

If we look at material management from the perspective of my life, it has actually been helping me to make sure that I know where all my things go (and this also actually helps in the laboratory). I am really prone to losing my things, so since New Year, I’ve started to start making sure that I keep track of where everything is. This not only helped me know the location of my things but also makes me know whether I need to buy more things or not. Next, material management also encouraged me to keep track of what I need to improve in regard to how I use my things like how I should budget them, and all since I’m prone to spend so much when it’s actually unnecessary. Moreover, material management has guided me to learn what things I actually need daily and what things I need to slowly start to let go of to avoid hoarding.

After listing down how important material management is in both my life and in the laboratory, I’ve slowly come to realize that the things I do in life are also actually similar to how I must work with my materials in the lab. In both cases, material management guides me to know of what I need, and how much I need, and avoid hoarding, spending too much, and even creating more unnecessary waste. Lastly, material management helps me avoid losing things and not knowing where it was placed. Thus, material management is something no one should take for granted as it greatly impacts our overall function on how we make use of the things around us.
