The Importance of Material Management in a Clinical Laboratory

Material Management, by definition, is the process of planning, organizing, and controlling the flow of materials from their acquisition to their utilization in an organization. This process is important because it tracks down all the materials being used in an organization, from purchase to use, to make sure that there is enough and sufficient materials needed for a more efficient and effective flow in the workplace.

Material Management is an important aspect in a Clinical Laboratory as it is responsible in managing the resources to be used in the Laboratory. From reagents to equipment, Material Management is done so that all materials in the laboratory are enough and sufficient to provide an accurate, reliable, and timely delivery of test results. Additionally, Material Management also plays a huge role in the Quality Control of a Clinical Laboratory as accurate test results depend on the quality of the materials used in the laboratory. Proper material management can ensure that the laboratory uses high-quality materials that are properly stored and handled.
