For this subject, I learned that it is not easy to run a laboratory since there are a lot of factors to look at. Aside from the actual test and diagnosis, keeping the records of your patient must also be considered. This is where LIS enters the picture. A good LIS will definitely make it easier for medical technologists to organize the workflow and facilitate seamless communication and collaboration among laboratory staff, healthcare professionals, and patients. Additionally, I learned that it enables efficient data sharing which would lead to improved patient care. But as we go on with making our final project for this subject, I found out that here in the Philippines, there are still laboratories that are using the paper-based system (most of them actually). While the benefits of LIS are significant, the transition from paper-based systems to digital ones may face challenges. Based on my readings, most laboratories encounter resistance to change due to factors such as cost, staff training, and concerns about data security and privacy. However, with proper planning, education, and support, these obstacles can be overcome.

I look forward for all the laboratories to finally adapt with the new way of keeping records and may the government give more appreciation to all the medical technologists here in the country. Overcoming challenges associated with transitioning to digital systems requires support from the government and recognition of the important role played by medical technologists in the healthcare system. Additionally, this subject made me appreciate my chosen course even more because at first, I thought that we would just be focusing on specimens yet I did not expect that we would be taught regarding the digital side of this profession.

My overall experience for this semester specifically in this subject was a great one. I like it because most of our activities are not the usual tasks given by teachers but it allow us to tap on our creative side and teamwork especially on the last project. This whole experience was a fun one for me and I look forward to see you all in the next semester. Thank you, everyone!

P.S. I would also like to share a verse that helped me a lot during the tough times.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7
