Difference between policy, processes, and procedures:
Policy: A policy is a broad declaration or principle that directs choices and establishes the general course of an organization. It is a comprehensive document that lists the objectives, principles, and guidelines that apply to particular operational areas. Policies offer a framework for making decisions that are consistent and well-informed and are often produced by top-level management or governing bodies. For instance, a college might have a policy on academic integrity that establishes standards for students’ integrity and moral conduct.
Processes: A process is a predetermined sequence of steps that must be taken in order to accomplish a given goal or finish a task. They explain how to carry out tasks in a methodical and effective way. Inputs, outputs, and checkpoints for processes may be predetermined and frequently include numerous people or departments. To assure consistency, quality, and accountability in the execution of operations, they offer an organized method. For instance, the stages involved in enrolling at a college can include completing an application, supplying the necessary paperwork, paying the fees, and signing up for classes.
Procedures: Within an organization, procedures are specific instructions or rules that specify how to carry out particular duties or activities. They give detailed instructions, frequently accompanied by visual aids or forms, to make sure that people know how to carry out their tasks precisely and consistently. Compared to rules or processes, procedures are more precise and practical. As an illustration, a college might have a process manual that details how to carry out a lab experiment, including equipment setup, safety precautions, and data recording techniques.
