1. Learning Insights
Like other students, I thought with the subject matter Health Information Systems (HIS) it would have more to do with the coding and development of such programs. Rather, the subject was focused more on its practical application in the clinical laboratory. This application does not necessarily involve computer technology as demonstrated by the manual methods exhibited by some of the labs our class interviewed. When keeping records, surprisingly a lot of labs still opt to use manual method of writing down information. Others have adapted using Excel and other personal programs they have bought the license to use. Regardless of the choice of HIS, having these systems are necessary to ensure the smooth flow of operations in the lab.

I mostly learned a lot from when we created our own clinical laboratory online. I learned the exact process and procedures that went into the creation of a clinical laboratory from the needed utilities, procedures, policies, personnel, etc.
