MT 14 (LEC) – BB
What I Have Learned
Through MT 14, I was able to learn more about the technical side of becoming a medical technologist. As a freshman, I really did not think that a medical technologist would shoulder tasks that would utilize computer systems. Hence, to say that I learned “a lot” from MT 14 would be an understatement. I was able to know more about information systems and how they functioned in the laboratory. I learned that computers play vital roles in the laboratory setting as it is a tool that helps medical technologists deliver and transmit the health information of patients with utmost accuracy and reliability. Moreover, I also learned about the importance of quality assurance and quality assessment in the laboratory as they mold the laboratory’s patient treatment from the patient preparation procedures down to the actual processing of the specimens. Hence, because of this, I have grasped that quality assessment helps the clinical laboratory establish a well-organized system of specimen collection wherein accuracy and precision are highlighted and given significance. Additionally, I also was able to learn about laboratory policy and procedure manuals. I learned that the aforementioned, guides medical technologists on the protocols and on what to do inside a clinical laboratory from the whole specimen collection process down to the actual specimen processing and reporting. Furthermore, I also was able to grasp the importance of establishing the correct and right policies in order for a clinical laboratory to elude a healthy and safe working environment for all laboratory personnel giving consideration to the safety and comfort of the personnel. Ultimately, I was also able to learn some basic life skills in budgeting through MT 14 and this is through the utilization of effective inventory and material management.
