The twelfth president of Silliman University, Dr. Ben S. Malayang III, profoundly imparts his perspective on whole-person education, which he champions as the essence of holistic learning. Centered on the building of competence, character, and faith, he emphasizes the need for an approach that is heeded on producing graduates who are not only academically adept and globally competent but are also individuals who possess good values, integrity, and a strong sense of compassion to serve their communities. Likewise, Dr. Malayang recognizes the key role of the United Board in championing this method across Asian institutions, which he believes will become the main platform for change and transformation – the cornerstone that will bridge faith and learning in this globalized world. However, Dr. Malayang’s visions aren’t without challenges. This great feat requires not only the efforts of educating the students but the life-long learning of educators, as well. Continuously educating and encouraging the faculty members to reimagine and reinvent teaching methods to better align with the objectives of whole-person education is put at the forefront of this goal. Truly, the article presenting Dr. Malayang’s insights and plans presents the significance of holistic education and how organizations like the United Board are integral in uplifting and enhancing education throughout Asia.
