Reflection – What is Whole Person Education and Multiple Intelligence?
The article by KnewSTEP highlights that intelligence does not merely refer to smarts in academics but rather, encompasses six areas of development within a person. These areas of intelligence development are Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence, Adversity Intelligence, Cultural Intelligence, and Financial Intelligence. Whole Person Education aims to develop all these factors within their students so that they may be able to fully grow as responsible and intelligent citizens as it is important to develop all these areas. The article makes it a point to tell us that while some areas of intelligence are more widespread or known, we should not undermine the value of the rest. Just like how IQ is highly important, EQ should not be forgotten as our emotions affect and dictate a lot of our actions no matter how much we’d like them not to. Moreover, SQ should also be taken into account as our relationships with others and with society are what shape our behaviors and attitudes. After all, it was David Humes who said that we are merely a bundle of perceptions, so it stands to reason that we should cultivate our relationships. Let us also not forget about AQ as how a person deals with the challenges they face determines how much experience and knowledge they learn from said obstacles. Furthermore, intelligence would not be able to encapsulate a whole person’s being without CQ and FQ as well since those two, along with the rest of the aforementioned areas, are what make up the roots of a person. Through Whole Person Education, we can learn to nurture these traits so that we may blossom into the best version of ourselves and grow to become intelligent people in all aspects of development.
