[Reflection] What is Whole Person Education and Multiple Intelligence?

What is whole person education and multiple intelligence?

Multiple intelligence theory supports the idea that a person’s “intelligence” is not only determined by their academic achievements and intellectual prowess. It describes the different ways students learn and acquire information. KnewSTEP education talks about five areas of intelligence, excluding IQ (Intelligence Quotient), that they wish to improve within their students through a variety of activities that help them grow as a whole person. They aim to teach students to be resilient when facing challenges (AQ), how to manage time and resources wisely (FQ), understand and manage one’s own emotions and thoughts in positive ways (EQ), build connections and form meaningful relationships with other people (SQ), and how to recognize and adapt to cultural differences (CQ).

It’s no longer suitable in the modern world to assess an individuals ability through their raw intelligence. Some students may be lacking with their academic performance but highly proficient in making conversation and interpersonal communication. Such skills must also be carefully considered, especially in an era where the use of social media is continuously rising. As times are always changing, the goals of education and its teaching methods must also constantly evolve to cater the needs of every person.
