Named in honor of Dr. James W. Chapman, a pioneering American professor and entomologist, the Chapman Science Complex at Silliman University is a tribute to his many contributions. This building houses the Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics Departments, along with the captivating Rodolfo Gonzales Museum of Natural History. Dr. Chapman’s legacy extends beyond academia, as he played a crucial role in sustaining the university during and after World War II. His passion for ‘hard sciences’ and dedication to teaching left an indelible mark on Silliman, where he joined in 1916 with his wife, Ethel, who also became part of the university’s faculty.
