Reflection Post1. What is a Sillimanian?
Being a true Sillimanian means fully embracing Silliman University’s culture and values. It’s about committing to excellence in learning and understanding, not just in academics but in life’s broader knowledge. Sillimanians are known for their dedication to seeking truth and actively participating in the pursuit of knowledge.
True Sillimanians are deeply connected to their community and are driven by a strong sense of service. They believe in giving back and making a difference, both locally and globally. Sillimanians share a common bond rooted in the university’s history and values, which include faith, integrity, and respect for diverse cultures. The university’s motto, “Via, Veritas, Vita” (the way, the truth, and the life), guides their actions and beliefs, encouraging them to live out these principles in their lives. In short, being a true Sillimanian is about fully embracing the university’s culture, dedicating oneself to learning and service, and upholding values that shape both personal and community life.
2. What is your view on the mental aspect of man?
The mental aspect of humanity is a profound and fascinating part of our existence. It’s what distinguishes us from other species and enables us to think, create, and understand the world around us. Our minds are incredibly complex, capable of processing vast amounts of information, experiencing a wide range of emotions, and forming intricate thoughts and beliefs.
But beyond its complexity, the human mind is also a source of both incredible potential and vulnerability. It can drive us to achieve remarkable feats, inspire innovation, and foster deep connections with others. However, it can also be a place of great struggle, as we grapple with self-doubt, anxiety, and the complexities of our own emotions.
In my view, it’s essential to care for our mental well-being just as we care for our physical health. By nurturing our minds through self-awareness, self-compassion, and seeking support when needed, we can harness the immense potential of our mental aspect while addressing its challenges. Our mental well-being is intricately linked to our overall quality of life and our ability to understand and connect with the world, making it a vital part of our human experience.
