    GE10A-DD | ROMANS 7-8 REFLECTION

The beginning of Romans 7 highlights the discussion of Paul about the commandments, sin, and death. The scripture says that through the death of Jesus Christ, we are given a chance to live a life with God and to grow with Him spiritually. In this way, we experience a spiritual death in which we become changed individuals freed from any obligation of the commandments. Paul exemplifies this by using an analogy from marriage. In this occurrence, a woman becomes free from the law of marriage once her husband dies. Moreover, Paul also clarified that the commandment is not sinful, but it teaches what is sinful. Through the law, we become aware of evil and that death is a consequence if we fail to obey it. In a manner, we are subjected to death because we are unable to keep the commandments. Nevertheless, the law is still sacred, righteous, and good, as Paul emphasized. The rest of the chapter then highlights the prophet’s experience about the continuous battle between sin and Christians. Romans 7 calls us to turn back from our sins and to live a life of righteousness, believing in Jesus Christ. Although we cannot uphold each law, we should aim to keep them and learn to overcome temptations. As humans, we are accustomed to certain desires that lead us to sin. Apostle Paul recognizes this battle and shares his experiences. However, we must remain steadfast, faithful, and determined to overcome our sins.
On the other hand, Romans 8 is about God’s gifts to those who remain faithful to Him. In this chapter, Paul describes Christians living according to the Holy Ghost. They no longer succumb to the desires of their flesh. Moreover, the scripture further explained that the Spirit living in each believer is similar to the Spirit that resurrected Jesus Christ from death. With this, we are granted life with God. It is also important to note that the Spirit of the Lord is comparable to an adoption paper because, through it, God deemed us as His sons and daughters. Furthermore, Paul also mentioned the great suffering and struggles we might experience here on earth. He then reassures Christians that this is incomparable to the life we will have with our Father. As a believer, I think that Romans 8 is one of the most endearing and promising chapters of the book. The coming of God and the life we will have with Him in the future are something that I continue to look forward to each day. Additionally, Romans 8 is a beautiful chapter highlighting God’s unconditional passion and promise to His children. This chapter, to me, is a symbol of hope. It truly keeps me determined to overcome the issues I face every day.
