Reflection on the Silliman University Logo:
– – – – – – – – – –
Our university’s logo is truly an iconic symbol that has stood the test of time. The key to its timeless appeal is the meaning behind each and every detail that it poses. At its center, it boasts a burning lamp which symbolizes our dedication to our studies and commitment to academic excellence. Shining brightly to portray the drive that we Sillimanians possess. Below it lies a book that represents the Bible, as our religion and faith is considered to be highly important in this institution and is an aspect of our lives that we should never lose focus on. Circling the inner frame of the logo are leaves that correlate to life. This pertains to how the lessons in this university are not just meant to prepare us for the end of college but also, the rest of our lives—hinting at the importance of constant growth as it is through our development that we may become better versions of ourselves. Just like how the leaves on a tree change with the seasons, we must also strive to continue progressing and refuse to stay static. The logo also proudly proclaims the location and name of the school—with the words Via, Veritas, Vita below them. These stand for, “the way, the truth, the life” which firmly stresses our dedication to our faith in Jesus Christ. It is a reminder that we can always find guidance through God. Lastly, the colour chosen holds significance as well as Red is the colour of love and passion. Two traits that all Sillimanians should carry with them with regard to their school and every aspect of their lives. All these well-thought-out details come together to perfectly encapsulate what this institution is about—showcasing the values that we Sillimanians proudly hold near and dear to our hearts.
