    “HIBBARD HALL”

Hibbard Hall, named after Silliman’s first president, Dr. David S. Hibbard, and his wife, Laura C. Hibbard, who was also the first faculty member, began as part of the “Greater Silliman Fund” project initiated by Dr. Paul Doltz in the early 1930s. This fundraising effort aimed to establish an endowment fund and develop essential campus infrastructure. The first floor of Hibbard Hall was completed in 1932, and over the next nine years, through a collaborative endeavor involving students, faculty, and staff, the second floor, which now houses the university’s Anthropology Museum, was finished in 1941. Today, the Anthropology Museum within Hibbard Hall boasts a vast collection of anthropological artifacts, including everyday objects and ancestral instruments, making it a significant repository of the country’s cultural heritage, all situated on the hall’s second floor.
