The nephron as the “functional unit of the kidney” has an intricate structure. Along with its structural complexity, it plays an important role in removing all waste products including the solid wastes, and other excess water from the blood, converting blood into the urine. Processes including reabsorption, secretion, and excretion of numerous substances occur in the nephron, which explains its significance to the human body.
