President Benigno Aquino, Jr. signed Republic Act (RA) 10173, also known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012, into law on August 15, 2012. The law was passed “to protect the fundamental human right of privacy, of communication while ensuring free flow of information to promote innovation and growth.” (Republic Act. No. 101173, Chapter 1, Section 2)
