Food that has been partially digested travels to the small intestine, where enzymes and bile from the liver and pancreas aid in nutritional absorption. Finally, the remaining indigestible material enters the large intestine, where it absorbs water and produces waste. This complicated mechanism ensures that the body receives the nutrients it requires for energy and function.
