The beats of the cardiovascular system are definitely my jam!
The Cardiovascular System is composed of the heart and the blood vessels. The illustration below displays the anatomy of the heart. In the heart’s physiology, deoxygenated blood enters the heart’s right atrium from the body and then flows into the right ventricle. From there, it is pumped into the pulmonary arteries, leading to the lungs, picking up oxygen. The oxygenated blood then returns to the heart via the pulmonary veins, entering the left atrium. It then flows into the left ventricle, which pumps it out to the body’s tissues through the aorta.
For the blood vessels, its walls consist of three layers or tunics. The Tunica Intima, lining the interior or lumen, is a thin layer of endothelium that reduces friction as blood flows through. The Tunica Media, the middle layer, primarily comprises smooth muscle and elastic fibers, actively adjusting vessel diameter to influence blood pressure. Lastly, the Tunica Externa, the outermost layer, mainly comprises fibrous connective tissue to support and protect the blood vessels.
We should appreciate the work of the cardiovascular system, as it is the delivery system of the blood, transporting oxygen and nutrients. For me, it’s not just an organ system; it’s the conductor of vitality, keeping the melody of life in perfect harmony.
