MT30 (LAB) – BName of the Specimen: Frog Kidney Sect. (LPO)
Description: Frogs’ kidneys perform comparable tasks to those of human kidneys, including the control of blood pressure and filtration of blood, but after a period of time on land, they also reabsorb water. In both anatomical and physiological studies, a frog’s kidney has always been a subject for examination and observation due to its greater accessibility. An example would be this image which shows a beautiful stained section of a frog’s kidney. Though the full image of the specimen couldn’t be captured, the kidney of a frog has a roughly hemi-circular cross-section. The dorsal surface is curved to conform to the bony curvature of the spinal column, whereas the ventral surface is rather flat.
