Organs and other body structures are supported structurally and kept intact by the broad range of tissues known as connective tissues. They are made up of cells embedded in an extracellular matrix made of fibers and proteins such reticular fibers, collagen, and elastin. Adipose tissue, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and bone are a few examples of connective tissues.
