Connective tissue is a diverse and essential type of biological tissue that provides structural support, connectivity, and metabolic support to various organs and tissues in the body. It consists of cells, fibers, and a ground substance. The cells include fibroblasts, adipocytes, and immune cells. The fibers, such as collagen and elastin, contribute to the tissue’s strength and elasticity. The ground substance surrounds cells and fibers, providing a medium for nutrient diffusion. Connective tissue plays a crucial role in maintaining the form and function of organs, supporting mechanical stress, and participating in immune responses. Examples include bone, cartilage, blood, and adipose tissue.
