🧫 Bone marrow, smear (LPO)
A bone marrow smear is a microscopic examination of a thin layer of bone marrow cells spread on a glass slide. It is typically obtained through a bone marrow aspiration or biopsy. This specimen allows for the evaluation of the cellular composition of the bone marrow, including the presence and morphology of blood-forming cells (hematopoietic cells), as well as any abnormalities such as infections, leukemia, or other hematologic disorders. The examination provides valuable information about the overall health and function of the bone marrow, aiding in the diagnosis and management of various medical conditions.

🧫 Fibrocartilage section (OIO)
A fibrocartilage section refers to a tissue sample that includes fibrocartilage, a type of connective tissue with both fibrous and cartilaginous components. Fibrocartilage is found in certain joints, intervertebral discs, and other structures where resilience and strength are needed. Under microscopic examination, a fibrocartilage section would reveal dense collagen fibers embedded in a matrix of cartilage cells (chondrocytes). This tissue provides support and helps absorb shock in areas subjected to mechanical stress, contributing to its unique structural characteristics.
