ACTIVITY 2A (Epithelial Tissues)
Epithelial tissues are abundant throughout the body. They provide coverage for all body surfaces, lining body cavities and hollow organs, and constituting the major tissue in glands. They serve numerous functions, including protection, secretion, absorption, excretion, filtration, diffusion, and sensory reception. These tissues feature tightly packed cells with very little intercellular matrix. Epithelial cells can be squamous, cuboidal, or columnar in shape and can be organized in either single (simple) or multiple (stratified) layers.
