MUSCLE TISSUE
Striated muscle
They are also known as skeletal muscle, is a voluntary tissue responsible for controlled movements. Found attached to bones, these muscles contract to enable actions like walking, running, and gripping. Striated muscles get their name from the striped appearance of their cells, which contain highly organized protein filaments called myofibrils. These filaments interact to shorten and generate force, allowing for movement.Cardiac muscle
A muscle unique to the heart, is an involuntary striated muscle tissue. Unlike skeletal muscle you can control, cardiac muscle contracts rhythmically on its own. This inherent ability is called autorhythmicity. These contractions propel blood throughout the body, making cardiac muscle essential for maintaining circulation. Specialized cells within the tissue coordinate these contractions, ensuring a steady heartbeat.Smooth muscle
Unlike muscles you can control, works involuntarily. Found in organs like your stomach and intestines, it propels food and waste through rhythmic contractions. These muscles also regulate blood pressure by constricting or dilating blood vessels. Smooth muscle can maintain sustained contractions for long periods, crucial for functions like holding urine in your bladder. Overall, smooth muscle plays a behind-the-scenes role in vital bodily processes.Source: National Institutes of Health
