March 21, 2024The nervous system, like the body’s electrical wiring, controls and coordinates all bodily functions. It consists of two main parts: the central nervous system (CNS), including the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system (PNS), which connects to the rest of the body. The CNS interprets sensory information and controls actions, while the PNS regulates voluntary muscle movements (somatic nervous system) and involuntary functions (autonomic nervous system). Neurons are the basic building blocks of the nervous system, transmitting electrical signals throughout the body.
