Laboratory Activity #5: Viewing of Blood Vascular (Circulatory) TissuesBlood Vascular (Circulatory) Tissue | Mammal Vein Section
Structure: Veins have thinner walls compared to arteries. They contain valves that ensure blood flows towards the heart. The inner lining, called the endothelium, is a single layer of cells. A smooth muscle layer surrounds the endothelium and helps regulate blood flow.
Function: Veins carry deoxygenated blood from tissues back to the heart. Blood pressure is lower in veins compared to arteries.
Location: Found throughout the body, draining blood from organs and tissues. Smaller veins converge into larger ones, eventually leading to the superior and inferior vena cava which drain into the right atrium of the heart.
